The compound was developed at Novo Nordisk during the 1990s as part of a programme seeking secretagogues with improved selectivity. It was described in the peer-reviewed literature in 1998 alongside related pentapeptides from the same series. Investigators advanced it because it raised growth hormone output in animal models while leaving other pituitary hormones comparatively unaffected. The development code NNC 26-0161 appears in earlier reports, and ipamorelin later became the common designation in published work.
Selectivity is the property most often attached to this peptide. Published animal and early human studies record increases in growth hormone release after administration, with adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol responses remaining small by comparison. Effects on appetite-related pathways also appear weaker than those reported for several earlier secretagogues. Reviews that compare members of the growth hormone secretagogue family cite these findings frequently, though the receptor-level explanation for the selectivity continues to be debated rather than settled.
Identity and purity assessment for a research peptide of this kind typically combines reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. The chromatographic run separates related impurities and yields a purity percentage, while electrospray ionization or matrix-assisted laser desorption mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass. Amino acid analysis or tandem mass spectrometry sequencing can add confidence when material is intended for quantitative work. Laboratories differ in how they calculate and report purity, so figures from different sources are not always directly comparable.
Lyophilized material is generally stored cold and dry, with desiccant, and protected from light. In solution the peptide is more vulnerable: the histidine side chain can oxidize, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles promote aggregation and loss of material to container surfaces. A mildly acidic aqueous buffer is often used for short-term handling because it limits several degradation routes. Accurate prediction of long-term stability under a given set of conditions is difficult, and published stability data remain sparse.

Research quantities of ipamorelin are typically distributed as a white to off-white lyophilized powder. The solid dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffers, and stock solutions are commonly prepared in sterile water or a mildly acidic diluent. Adsorption to plastic and glass surfaces can reduce the concentration of very dilute solutions, so containers and transfer steps deserve attention when accurate concentrations matter. Reconstituted material is generally used promptly rather than held for extended periods.
Storage recommendations for the dry solid center on low temperature and low moisture, most often -20 °C in a sealed, desiccated container protected from light. Solutions are less stable than the powder and are usually kept cold and used within a short window. Freeze-thaw cycling is a recognized source of loss, and aliquoting before freezing is a standard precaution. These practices derive from general peptide handling principles rather than from a single published stability trial, so exact shelf lives should be treated as approximate.
Analytical confirmation relies on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, often coupled to mass spectrometry for identity and purity assessment. Mass spectrometry distinguishes the intact molecule from truncation products and from oxidation or deamidation variants that share similar chromatographic retention. Immunoassays appear in some biological studies but can cross-react with related peptides, so they are weaker tools for identity work. Reported purity figures depend heavily on the gradient, detector, and integration method used, which complicates direct comparison between laboratories.
At the molecular level, ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a, the same G protein-coupled receptor that binds ghrelin. Receptor activation couples to Gq/11 signaling, raising intracellular calcium through inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol, which in turn promotes exocytosis of growth hormone from pituitary somatotroph cells. Ipamorelin binds this receptor with high affinity and shows weak activity at other secretagogue-related targets in vitro. Its action requires the intact receptor and is not reversed by growth hormone-releasing hormone antagonists.
Compared with earlier growth hormone secretagogues such as GHRP-6 and hexarelin, ipamorelin has been reported to produce less stimulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, and prolactin in animal and early human studies. This selectivity is usually attributed to differences in receptor subtype interactions and to the tissue distribution of the receptor. Effects on appetite appear weaker than those of ghrelin itself, although the supporting evidence base is small. Whether these differences produce a distinct clinical profile remains an open question, since controlled human trials are limited.
Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is the standard method for purity assessment, most often on a C18 column with a water and acetonitrile gradient and trifluoroacetic acid or formic acid as an ion-pairing agent. Mass spectrometry by electrospray or matrix-assisted laser desorption confirms the expected mass and reveals truncated or modified sequences. Amino acid analysis and sequencing provide orthogonal structural evidence. Typical impurities include deletion sequences, oxidized products, and dimeric species. Detection wavelength, usually 214 or 220 nanometers, should be reported because response factors differ between peptides.
Purity is normally reported as a percentage of total peak area, a figure that does not account for water content, residual solvents, or counterions. Trifluoroacetate and acetate are the most frequent counterions in lyophilized peptides, and they shift the true peptide content away from the mass of the powder. A separate quantitative assay is therefore needed to state content accurately. Certificates of analysis often omit these details, which makes batch-to-batch comparison difficult and limits conclusions drawn when results from different suppliers are compared.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from moisture and light. Repeated excursions to room temperature cause condensation inside the vial and gradual moisture uptake, both of which shorten shelf life. Containers should be allowed to equilibrate before opening so that water does not condense on the solid. Dividing a batch into single-use aliquots reduces freeze-thaw cycling. Solid peptide handled this way is usually considered stable for months to years, while the same material in solution degrades on a much shorter timescale.
Sweden: The nationalist Sweden Democrats entered the Swedish parliament for the first time in the 2010 Swedish general election. France: The far right obtained representatives in the Assembly for the first time since the 1997 election, The National Rally wins two seats in the 2012 legislative election. Germany: The Alternative for Germany (AfD), which was previously unrepresented in the Bundestag, became the third largest party in the Bundestag with 12.6% of the vote in the 2017 German federal election. It was the first time since 1957 that a party to the political right of the CDU/CSU gained seats in the Bundestag. Spain: The far-right Vox party entered Congress for the first time in 2019 Spanish general election. Vox's result signalled the first time since Blas Piñar's election as a deputy for the National Union coalition in 1979 that a far-right party had won seats in the Spanish Parliament after the country's return to democracy as well as the first time that a far-right party would be able to form a parliamentary group of its own in the Congress of Deputies. Portugal:The right-wing/far-right party CHEGA (CH) elected an MP from Lisbon in the 2019 Portuguese legislative election. It was the first time since the return to democracy 45 years that a right-wing/far-right party gained representation in Parliament.
== Personal life == Lowrie’s adolescence was spent in Boulder, Colorado, where he attended various high schools briefly before joining the United States Navy. He first met his wife Ellen McLain in 1984 in Arnhem, Netherlands, during the European tour of Show Boat, which McLain starred in. They returned to the United States, where they married and moved in together, initially in New York City. They then spent two years in Indiana, before they finally settled in Seattle to pursue acting. Lowrie has since voiced characters alongside McLain in Team Fortress 2, Half-Life 2, and Dota 2.
== Structure == The posterior pituitary consists mainly of neuronal projections (axons) of magnocellular neurosecretory cells extending from the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus. These axons store and release neurohypophysial hormones oxytocin and vasopressin into the neurohypophyseal capillaries, from there they get into the systemic circulation (and partly back into the hypophyseal portal system). In addition to axons, the posterior pituitary also contains pituicytes, specialized glial cells resembling astrocytes assisting in the storage and release of the hormones. Classification of the posterior pituitary varies, but most sources include the two regions below:

=== Contraindications and patient factors === Docetaxel is contraindicated for use with patients with a baseline neutrophil count less than 1500 cells/μL, a history of severe hypersensitivity reactions to docetaxel or polysorbate 80, severe liver impairment and pregnant or breast-feeding women. Side effects are experienced more frequently by patients of 65 years or older, but dosage is usually not decreased. Kidney failure is thought not to be a significant factor for docetaxel dosage adjustment. Patients with hepatic insufficiency resulting in serum bilirubin greater than the upper limit of normal (ULN) should not be administered docetaxel, though this is not a stated contraindication. Dosage should be reduced by 20% in people who develop grade 3 or 4 diarrhea following exposure to docetaxel, hepatotoxicity defined by liver enzymes at levels greater than five times the ULN, and grade 2 palmer-planter toxicity. Paediatric trials of docetaxel have been limited, and so safety of use in patients under 16 years has not been established.

==== Expedition 70/71 ==== Caldwell Dyson returned to flight training as a backup crew member for the Soyuz MS-24. She backed up her NASA astronaut colleague Loral O'Hara. She was officially assigned to the Soyuz MS-25 in 2023. Her first attempt to launch on the Soyuz MS-25 mission on March 21, 2024 was aborted with 20 seconds left before lift-off. The scrub occurred because of a low voltage reading in the Soyuz rocket electrical system. She launched on March 23, 2024 with Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky and Belarusian cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya. After a two-day rendezvous profile, the Soyuz crew docked with International Space Station's Prichal module on March 25, 2024. The first weeks of her mission dealt with the SpaceX CRS-30 mission, as well as viewing the total eclipse above North America on April 8, 2024 and the redocking of SpaceX Crew-8 in early May. Starting in mid-May, Expedition 71 crew focused themselves on the preparation for the three planned EVAs. During this period, the crew checked out EMUs, tools, and reviewed procedures. They also performed maintenance tasks around station as well as continued scientific work. On June 6, Caldwell Dyson saw the arrival of the first crewed mission of Starliner. The Starliner crew was composed of Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams. Caldwell Dyson monitored the arrival of Starliner alongside Matthew Dominick and helped the Starliner crew to accomplish their test flight objectives including testing the spacecraft habitability for four crew members and its capability as a safe haven in case of an emergency.

It is a synthetic five-amino-acid peptide that acts as a growth hormone secretagogue. Three of its residues are non-standard amino acids, and the chain ends in an amide rather than a free acid. The molecule is small enough that it can be characterised by routine peptide analytical techniques.
It has not received marketing approval as a medicine in the United States or the European Union. Supplied material is generally described and handled as a research chemical. Regulatory treatment varies by jurisdiction, and some countries restrict growth hormone secretagogues under sports or medicines legislation.
Earlier secretagogues were associated with broader hormonal responses, including measurable changes in cortisol and prolactin. Reports on this peptide describe a narrower profile in which growth hormone release is the most prominent effect. The observation is influential because it shapes how the compound is compared with other members of the same receptor family.
Reversed-phase liquid chromatography is standard for purity, and mass spectrometry is standard for identity. Amino acid analysis is used when quantitative composition matters. No single technique answers every question, so laboratories usually combine two or three.
